The accused, who had been charged with strangling his girlfriend with a zip tie, has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by the judge.
Judge Berry Darensburg denied the defense’s motions for a new trial and post-verdict acquittal before pronouncing the sentence. In his ruling, Darensburg highlighted that Sheppard had fled to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, after committing the crime to evade arrest.
