Katy Perry was given a heartwarming farewell on the long-running TV show she has been a part of for seven years. “American Idol” paid tribute to her by showcasing the remaining contestants singing a medley of her iconic songs.
The pop star made an appearance on ‘Idol’ Sunday night during the season finale. Just before announcing the winner, Abi Carter, Ryan Seacrest and the rest of the team decided to dedicate a special moment to KP in the broadcast. And naturally, it involved music.
The producers of ‘Idol’ decided to bring back the Top 12 girls, some of whom had previously been eliminated, to perform a medley of Katy’s greatest hits. The girls belted out popular songs like “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Girls.”
As you can imagine, the performance was absolutely incredible. It was a sight to behold, both for those lucky enough to witness it in person and for those watching on TV. The harmonization of all the ladies as they gracefully moved through Katy’s most iconic hits was truly something special.
Katy observed the tribute from the judge’s table, and when it concluded, she enthusiastically applauded and even hopped up onto the table to express her approval.
Katy’s departure from the show was a poignant moment, considering her longstanding involvement since the revival of ‘Idol’ at ABC in 2018. Prior to this, the show aired on FOX for several years. Alongside Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, she formed a new trio of judges, taking over from Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, and Randy Jackson.
Katy Perry has occasionally been a divisive figure, often playing the role of the no-nonsense judge. However, her contribution to the recent success of ‘Idol’ cannot be overlooked, which is why her unexpected departure came as a surprise.
