According to Maine officials, a game warden and his K-9 have found a 75-year-old man who had gone missing for four days after falling off a ledge. The man was discovered in a bog and was safe, thanks to the efforts of the game warden and his trusty K-9 companion.
According to social media posts from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife, Michael Altmaier, a resident of New Sharon, Maine, had been missing since last Monday. He had left his home for a meeting in Weld, a small town located in the southwestern part of the state. The park staff at the Mount Blue State Park Scenic Overlook in Weld later discovered his car.
On Friday morning, the Maine Warden Service commenced their search for Altmaier. After hours of searching, Game Warden Kayle Hamilton and a K-9 named Ash discovered him at approximately 3:45 p.m. local time. Altmaier was found along a bog, approximately 3/4 of a mile away from the location of his abandoned vehicle.
According to officials, Altmaier fell from a ledge embankment on Monday and may have become disoriented as a result.
According to officials, Altmaier received an initial assessment and first aid from game wardens, search volunteers, and a paramedic who reached him in time. They were able to provide him with the necessary medical attention before a Maine Forest Service helicopter airlifted him to a waiting ambulance. Altmaier was then taken to a nearby hospital, where he stayed overnight for further treatment.
According to emergency rescue workers, Altmaier’s condition was surprisingly good despite spending the last four days lying in the bog area. However, the hospital is yet to provide an update on his condition.
