Jackson Square gets ‘Thriller’ flash mob

Beware, Halloween “Thriller” seekers: When the clock chimes 12 (noon) on Jackson Square in the French Quarter, zombie dancers and groovin’ ghouls will descend upon the neighborhood to terrorize it with performance art. It is guaranteed to be enjoyable. Kenneth Kyr Bryan, a New Orleans dance instructor, is leading costumed dancers performing to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” for the twelfth consecutive Halloween.

The Bach Group is sponsoring the Halloween mob, which will feature students from Homer Plessy School, Kipp Morial, Anne Burr Dance Studio, Xavier University, Chic Nouvelle Model & Talent, Spotlight Dance, Schaumburg School, Pierre A Capdau, and Schramel Conservatory of Dance.

Winners of the final dance-off battle will receive four tickets to “MJ The Musical,” which will premiere at The Saenger Theatre from November 1-12. This contest is open to everyone.

The Tony Award-winning musical examines the 1992 tour of Michael Jackson.

Need additional encouragement to face the music? All indications point to a frighteningly excellent day in the Quarter on Tuesday, when temperatures are expected to reach the upper 50s at noon.
