Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. has made an announcement today regarding the indictment of Yehia Amin, a 28-year-old individual. Amin has been charged with committing a hate crime assault against a 23-year-old Israeli tourist in Times Square. The charges brought against Amin include First and Third Degree Stalking as a Hate Crime, Third Degree Assault as a Hate Crime, and Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree.
Amin’s violent actions took a turn for the worse when he delivered a powerful punch to the victim’s head, resulting in injury. In an attempt to escape the consequences of his actions, he tried to flee the scene but was quickly apprehended by the police after a short chase. Even during his arrest, Amin persistently expressed his hateful sentiments, further highlighting the severity of his actions.
Assistant District Attorney Edward Smith is leading the prosecution, supported by the Hate Crimes Unit. District Attorney Bragg emphasized that Manhattan has zero tolerance for acts of violence driven by hate and reassured the public of ongoing efforts to maintain safety for all residents.
If you have been a victim or witnessed a hate crime, it is important to reach out to the Manhattan D.A.’s office. The case highlights the valuable contributions made by Detective Desmond Brown and Officer Michael Walsh from the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force and Patrol Borough Manhattan South.
Yehia Amin is currently living in Queens, NY, and his indictment serves as a strong statement against hate crimes in New York City.
