Over the weekend in Southern California, a Secret Service agent was robbed at gunpoint and had to fire his weapon during the incident. The alarming incident took place on the same day that President Joe Biden was in the state.
According to a recent post on Facebook by Tustin police, an agent was returning from a work assignment when an incident occurred near a residential community in Orange County at 9:36 p.m. on Saturday.
President Joe Biden attended a fundraiser at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday night. He then returned to his Los Angeles hotel before 9 p.m. and flew back to Washington, D.C. later that night.
The Peacock Theater lies 42 miles north of Tustin.
According to a statement issued by the Tustin Police Department, an armed individual stole the agent’s bag.
According to the Secret Service, the government-issued weapon was fired by the agent.
Police reported that the suspect(s) remain at large and their condition is unknown following the incident. They left the scene in a silver car and are currently unaccounted for. However, some of the Secret Service agent’s belongings have been recovered.
According to the Secret Service, the Tustin Police Department serves as the primary investigative agency.
