Gov. Ivey grants $1.6 million to aid in statewide battle against drugs

Governor Kay Ivey has taken action by awarding grants to support a statewide initiative aimed at combating drug abuse in Alabama.

Ivey has dedicated $1.6 million to combat illegal drugs and drug-related crimes.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will award grants of $200,000 to each of the seven regional drug task forces. These grants will provide funding for overtime, operational, and equipment expenses.

In 2022, the task forces accomplished a remarkable feat by seizing over $946,000 collectively. The objective behind these grants is to empower the task forces in their mission to eradicate drugs from our streets.

The U.S. Department of Justice is providing funds to the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to administer the grants.
