Mocobizscene- Hundreds of mourners gathered at the NIA Masjid & Community Center in Newark on Saturday to pay their final respects to Imam Hassan Sharif. Sharif was fatally shot outside of his mosque in Newark on Wednesday morning.
Tanasia Ramson, the daughter of Sharif, expressed her admiration for her father, Hasan, stating, “Hasan was a great dad…community. I cannot put into words the immense impact he had on so many lives.”
The police have not yet identified a suspect or motive in Sharif’s death. However, they have stated that it does not seem to be a hate crime or an act of domestic terrorism. Ramson issued a stern warning to the killer, stating, “We will track you down and bring you to justice.”
According to locals, they are of the view that the shooting incident is unrelated to the Middle East crisis or any form of ethnic or religious prejudice. Instead, they attribute it to the prevailing issue of violence in the neighborhood.
“The escalating crime in this area needs to come to an end,” expressed Paulette Williams, a Newark resident. She further added, “The situation has become unbearable. I have made up my mind to relocate to another state. I simply cannot endure this any longer.”
The community is urging the police to intensify their investigation, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has offered a reward of $10,000 for any information that can lead to an arrest. Essex County Crime Stoppers has announced a generous reward of $25,000.
