On Wednesday morning, a small fire erupted at JFK Airport in New York, resulting in minor injuries to nine individuals and causing disruptions to dozens of flights.
At approximately 7:15 a.m., smoke filled Terminal 8 as a fire erupted on an escalator in Concourse C.
Approximately 960 individuals were relocated from the vicinity and transported to a different section of the terminal as a precautionary measure. Although nine individuals sustained injuries, they were all minor cases of smoke inhalation. Four individuals were transported to the hospital for further evaluation.
After the FDNY ventilated the terminal, it was deemed safe to reopen.
Out of the total 89 American flights scheduled to depart from Kennedy on Wednesday, American Airlines, the terminal occupant, reported the cancellation of three American Eagle regional departures due to the fire.
Before traveling, it is recommended to check with your carrier, as per the airport’s suggestion.
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire to determine its exact origin.
