Tragedy struck on Thanksgiving Day in South Los Angeles when a mother lost her life and her 8-year-old daughter was left in critical condition after a horrific crash. The incident took place on November 23rd at around 1:30 p.m. at 1758 W. 83rd St., just a few blocks south of Florence Avenue and east of Western Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Disaster struck when Alma Aragon, a mother, was walking along the sidewalk on 82nd and Western with her 8-year-old daughter. A speeding car heading southbound on the road collided with another vehicle as it was exiting a liquor store’s parking lot, which had apparently attempted a U-turn. Authorities have identified Alma Aragon as the mother involved in the incident.
Aragon and her daughter were severely affected by the impact of the collision, which caused one of the cars to veer onto the sidewalk. In addition, a male bystander in the vicinity of the incident sustained injuries. The ambulance promptly arrived at the scene and swiftly transported all three victims to a regional trauma center, according to the LAFD paramedics. Tragically, Aragon succumbed to her injuries and was later pronounced dead.
Her daughter’s condition is currently not fully understood, but based on the severity of her injuries, she is considered to be in critical condition. Reports suggest that she is fighting against serious injuries.
Investigations are still ongoing to determine the cause of the crash. However, preliminary findings suggest that alcohol may have been a factor for at least one of the drivers involved. Additionally, authorities have confirmed that the speeding driver was driving without a license. More information will be provided as the investigation progresses.
