Police have reported that a woman was tragically stabbed on a Metro train in Los Angeles during the early hours of Monday. Thankfully, authorities have detained a suspect in connection with the incident.
According to Los Angeles police Detective Meghan Aguilar, the woman was assaulted at approximately 5 a.m. while riding the train. The incident took place between the last stop and the Universal City station.
According to the police, the victim disembarked the train at Universal City station and was subsequently transported to a hospital. Unfortunately, she passed away during her time at the hospital.
According to the police, the suspect also disembarked the train at Universal City and escaped on foot.
Police said they were able to locate and apprehend a person matching the suspect’s description around 5:30 a.m.
According to a statement from the police, they are currently conducting interviews with him. The authorities have a strong belief that he is the suspect, which is supported by witness testimonies and other evidence.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
According to LAPD data compiled by ABC News, crimes reported on Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) properties have seen a significant increase of 65% since 2020. Additionally, the average monthly incidents of violent crimes on MTA properties have risen by over 15% between March 2023 and February 2024.
