Tragedy struck during Ohio State University’s graduation ceremony on Sunday when a person tragically fell from Ohio Stadium, resulting in their untimely death.
According to a report by The Columbus Dispatch, a police officer issued a distress call over the OSU police radio around 12:30 p.m, requesting assistance at gate 30 of Ohio Stadium. The officer stated, “I need medics and some officers… had one fall off the stadium.”
According to Dispatch photographer Doral Chenoweth, who was present at the scene, the area where the fall occurred was cordoned off with yellow tape and officials were visibly concerned.
The University conveyed in a statement to USA TODAY that a person tragically fell from the stands and has passed away. They also assured that counseling and other support resources will be made available for those affected by this incident.
According to Dispatch reporter Jordan Laird, who was present at the time of the incident, people in the stands and some students at commencement were visibly upset.
