After two weeks of public outcry, Harrison Butker’s highly debated commencement speech has led to the firing of a member of the City of K.C.’s social media team. Surprisingly, it was not the Chiefs’ placekicker who lost his job but rather the individual responsible for doxxing the Super Bowl champion.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas announced on Thursday that the city has “separated” from a K.C. staffer who publicly criticized 28-year-old Harrison Butker after his speech at Benedictine College. The staffer had tweeted, “Just a reminder that Harrison Butker lives in the City of Lee’s Summit.”
The tweet was promptly deleted and replaced with an apology that read, “We apologize for our previous tweet. It was shared in error.”
Regrettably, the tweet managed to upset numerous individuals who felt that it compromised Harrison’s safety. This included Missouri’s Attorney General, the highest-ranking law enforcement official in the state, who made a promise to take measures in response.
“I will make sure that the Missouri Human Rights Act is upheld in order to protect Missourians from being discriminated against based on their religious beliefs. Stay tuned,” stated MO AG Andrew Bailey.
HARRISON BUTKER ON THE FIELD
The Attorney General’s course of action remains uncertain in light of the social media staffer’s termination.
The mayor, on the other hand, wants to put the controversy behind him.
Lucas expressed his anticipation for progress during a recent radio appearance, stating, “We are all eager to move forward, allowing the Chiefs to play and enabling the city to fulfill its duty in providing essential services.”
Despite facing criticism and calls for his job, Harrison Butker, the Kansas City Chiefs’ kicker, has found support from key figures within the organization. Influential individuals such as star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, head coach Andy Reid, and team heiress Gracie Hunt have all stood by Butker during this challenging time.
