Mocobizscene- A 71-year-old man, who had previously served more than 40 years in federal custody for four bank robbery convictions, was arrested by the Los Angeles Police Department on suspicion of robbing a bank in Sun Valley. The suspect, Edward Bell, allegedly entered a bank on Vineland Avenue with a firearm and forcibly took an employee to a restricted-access door. He then threatened to shoot the employee if he was not allowed entry into the secured area. While inside the restricted area, Bell ordered another employee to fill his bag with cash before leaving with over $60,000.
Witnesses observed Bell driving away in a 2002 silver Volvo sedan and immediately called 911. Officers located Bell in his vehicle near Olinda Street and Roscoe Boulevard, where he was taken into custody without incident. A search of Bell’s vehicle resulted in the recovery of a black replica firearm and $64,000 in cash. He was subsequently booked on suspicion of kidnapping.
It was revealed that Bell had been released from custody in July 2021 and was on supervised release at the time of his arrest. Investigators suspect that there may be other victims of robbery by Bell who have yet to be identified. In an effort to encourage these victims to come forward, the police released photographs of Bell.
