Discovery of human remains in wetlands of northern Utah

Authorities in Box Elder County, Utah, are currently conducting an investigation to determine the identity of human remains discovered in a wetland area over the weekend.

The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office was alerted at around 10:45 a.m. about the discovery of “skeletal remains” within the Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge. According to officials, the remains were located in a secluded area on the northwest side of Willard Bay.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, along with the sheriff’s office, promptly responded to the area and confirmed the presence of human remains. The Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office and the Weber Metro Crime Scene Investigation team were also called in to assist in processing the scene and gathering crucial evidence.

The state medical examiner’s office will receive the remains and begin the process of identifying the deceased person.

Officials have stated that they currently do not possess any additional details.
