Detective of KCPD honored for rescuing newborn in hospital premises

In 2024, a local hospital parking lot in Kansas City became the site of a heroic act by a young detective. The detective’s quick actions were recognized and awarded for saving a life.

Montgomery Gist shared how he took the baby and placed her over his forearm using the first aid technique.

Without hesitation, Gist sprang into action to rescue the infant’s precious life.

According to Gist, he delivered two or three firm blows to her back, and fortunately, she began to cough.

The Kansas City Police Department recently awarded Det. Montgomery Gist with the Life-Saving Award.

As a member of the Assault Squad, Detective Montgomery Gist has valuable advice for those aspiring to become police officers.

Montgomery Gist suggests that if you are unsure about a certain career path, it would be beneficial to do some ride-alongs and experience what it’s like on a day-to-day basis.
