DeKalb County officials distributing 5,000 food boxes due to increased grocery prices

Residents of DeKalb County are set to receive a helping hand from local faith leaders and county officials who are generously giving away 5,000 boxes of food.

The county has made it clear that the 5,000 boxes they will be distributing will solely consist of items sourced from Georgia. This includes fruits and vegetables, eggs, and chicken hindquarters.

On Saturday at 9 a.m., the giveaway will take place at various locations throughout the county.

In honor of Father’s Day in June, officials from Count have announced that their monthly food distribution will take place.

DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond expressed his appreciation for all fathers and father figures who have shown love and support to their families. The occasion is being celebrated to honor these exceptional individuals.

DeKalb County has teamed up with over several churches for the giveaway event. The Chamblee Coalition for Homelessness and La Vision Newspaper are also supporting the initiative.

    • Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 3800 Big Miller Grove Way, Stonecrest, Ga. 30038
    • Berean Christian Church, 2201 Young Road, Stone Mountain, Ga. 30088
    • The Covenant Church, 1700 Corey Blvd., Decatur, Ga. 30032
    • Rehoboth Baptist Church, 2997 Lawrenceville Highway, Tucker, Ga. 30084
    • Plaza Fiesta, 4166 Buford Highway NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30345

According to the DeKalb County Government, the funding for purchasing Georgia-grown produce and chicken was sourced from the American Rescue Funds designated for the county.
