Deadly pedestrian struck in Downtown Jersey City; 24th county roadway death this year

According to radio transmissions from the police, a pedestrian lost their life after being hit by a vehicle on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of 16th Street and Marin Boulevard in Jersey City.

As of Sunday afternoon, no information was available regarding the fatal crash, which marks the ninth of its kind to occur in Jersey City this year. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed that it is not leading the investigation, and Jersey City officials have yet to provide any details. Tragically, these nine crashes have resulted in a total of 11 fatalities. Around 4 p.m., the crash took place near the vicinity of Newport Centre mall.

As we approach the end of the year, it’s alarming to note that Hudson County is close to surpassing last year’s record of 30 fatalities due to road accidents. Shockingly, 22 crashes have already caused the loss of 24 lives, including nine pedestrians. And with just eight weeks to go, the situation is concerning. It’s high time we take road safety seriously and work towards preventing such tragedies.
