DA to Press Charges Against Suspects In Alleged Nishita Murder Case

Mocobizscene-  Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price announced on Monday, stating her intention to press murder charges against two individuals who are accused of the killing of Kevin Nishita. Nishita, who was employed as a security guard for KRON4, tragically lost his life on November 24, 2021, in Oakland.

In a statement, Price revealed that my office has decided the charges against two of the three defendants involved in the murder case of Kevin Nishita. He stated, “We have gathered enough evidence to establish the guilt of Shadihia Mitchell and Hershel Hale firmly. Therefore, we have charged each of them with one count of first-degree murder.”

Hale, Mitchell, and Laron Marques Gilbert faced a series of serious charges, including murder, attempted robbery, and assault with a firearm. These charges were brought against them by Nancy O’Malley, Price’s predecessor, in early 2022. While Mitchell and Hale are facing the charges, Gilbert is currently evading capture. Price decided to proceed with the charges against Mitchell and Hale, despite Gilbert still being at large.

Virginia, the widow of Nishita, has been actively expressing her desire to remove Price from his position. In April, she openly endorsed a recall effort against the controversial District Attorney.

“Kevin is the victim, and we, as well as Kevin, are survivors who deserve justice. I have no faith or trust in Pamela Price’s ability to deliver this justice, which is why I believe she should be recalled,” expressed Virginia passionately.

According to Price, Gilbert, one of the suspects, remains at large as of Monday. The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force is actively pursuing Gilbert, and a $40,000 reward is available for anyone who helps in his capture.

During this trial, Mr. Nishita’s family is still in a state of mourning. I acknowledge that the Nishita family is going through an immense amount of pain, although I can never truly comprehend the depth of their suffering. I am aware that no words I say can alleviate their anguish since the tragic act of violence that took his life cannot be undone,” Price stated.
