Delaware State University campus sees fatal shooting of teenager

Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into a shooting incident that occurred on the campus of Delaware State University. Tragically, this incident resulted in the loss of life of an 18-year-old woman during the early hours of Sunday.

Dover police are collaborating with officers from Delaware State University in the ongoing investigation of a shooting incident. The incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. near Warren-Franklin Hall, a dormitory located on the university campus, as stated in an official statement by the authorities.

According to a statement from the Dover Police, university police were alerted to a report of shots being fired. Upon arrival, officers discovered a woman who had sustained a gunshot wound to her upper body.

According to the police, the woman who was involved in the incident is from Wilmington, a city located approximately 50 miles north of Delaware State University. However, her identity has not been disclosed, and it is important to note that she was not a student at the university.

According to the statement from the police, the victim received immediate assistance from the officers and was taken to Bayhealth Kent Campus for medical treatment. Unfortunately, the 18-year-old passed away at the hospital due to the severity of her injuries.

Dover Police have initiated a homicide investigation, working in collaboration with the Delaware State University Police regarding the incident, according to officials.

According to the police, they will continue to prioritize the health and well-being of the campus community by taking all necessary actions.

Counseling services are now accessible at the Tubman Laws Hall housing office, as authorities have taken steps to provide support. In response to the situation, the campus will remain closed on Sunday and all scheduled events have been canceled. Additionally, there has been an increase in police patrols to ensure safety and security.
