Councilman holds meeting with Mayfair Towers residents to address ongoing maintenance concerns.

Huntsville City Councilman Bill Kling recently met with senior tenants residing in the Mayfair Towers housing complex to discuss ways to address the ongoing maintenance issues.

Residents living in the apartment building have been raising concerns about a multitude of issues that have been piling up over time. Despite being brought to the attention of the authorities, these problems have been continuously ignored. Our previous coverage on this matter has highlighted a number of problems such as malfunctioning air conditioning units, non-functional washing machines, water leaks and the presence of rodents.

Carol Harris, a resident, expresses her willingness to extend her help to her co-tenants.

According to Harris, there is no maintenance team to take care of changing light bulbs and other tasks that require reaching the ceiling. As a result, she has taken it upon herself to handle some of these responsibilities.

It was mentioned earlier that the building has been without a manager and a full-time maintenance technician for quite some time.

Redwood Communities, the company that overlooked maintenance issues at the Russel Erskine apartments in downtown Huntsville, is also responsible for managing the buildings.

Kling expressed his disappointment stating that Redwood is receiving federal funding from HUD, which he believes is unacceptable.

Kling made it a point to meet with the tenants to guarantee that the city and state officials would hold Redwood Communities responsible for their inaction.

Kling expressed his outrage towards Redwood for subjecting senior citizens to elder abuse. He emphasized that it was unacceptable for such mistreatment to occur. However, he mentioned that they had taken the necessary steps to resolve the issue. They had already identified the ringleader of the group and gathered a significant amount of evidence. The ringleader was now in the process of contacting HUD and he hoped that they would receive assistance soon.

Before the maintenance issues worsen, Kling has taken proactive measures by reaching out to both the Huntsville City Community Development Department and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
