Conviction upheld for Newark murder suspect after new trial granted due to flawed witness testimony

According to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens II, Hassan Todd has been convicted for the murder of Elijah Roberts. The incident took place on September 22, 2018, on Avon Ave. Another victim was also shot but fortunately survived the attack.

In 2019, Todd faced a conviction and received a sentence of 65 years in prison. However, in 2022, his conviction was overturned due to faulty witness testimony, leading to a new trial being ordered.

Despite having four prior felony convictions for robbery, aggravated assault, drug offenses, and resisting arrest, Todd continues to assert his innocence.

In August, he will be sentenced to life in prison.
