Jerome “Jerry” Christal-Gattanella lost his life in a tragic incident when his parked car on the shoulder of the northbound side of the highway in Newark was rear-ended on Monday, Feb. 19. The news of his passing was shared by Inwood Fitness on Instagram, revealing that the 42-year-old New York City resident had worked as a trainer at their establishment.
A client of his shared an unfortunate experience where she eagerly awaited his arrival for their scheduled session the next day, but he failed to show up.
“I was waiting for you, Jerry, at 8am yesterday for our training session, and to my utter dismay, you never showed up,” she expressed in the comment section of the gym’s post.
It is incredibly difficult to put into words the profound sorrow I feel upon discovering that you are no longer with us. Speaking of you in the past tense brings an overwhelming ache to my heart. Your radiant smile had the power to brighten any room, and your unique and gentle spirit was unmatched. My sincerest sympathies and condolences go out to all who held you dear. 💐 ❤😢
On Jerry’s LinkedIn page, it is evident that he had experience working as an insurance agent alongside his true passion for fitness.
Jerry was described as a pillar of the community by Inwood Fitness, who emphasized that he had invested his heart and soul into the business.
“He not only championed creating a welcoming and inclusive environment but also made the gym feel like a second home for its members, creating a sense of family.”
“We are deeply saddened by his passing, as we grieve the loss of a remarkable coach who embodied true leadership, compassion, and love.”
Another mourner expressed their shock, saying, “I can’t believe this 😭😭😭. Jerry was not just a good neighbor, but also a kind soul. Today, I am deeply affected by this news and I send my heartfelt condolences to everyone 💔💔💔.”
