Civilian Trapped and Deputies Injured in Santa Ana Patrol Vehicle Crash

Mocobizscene-On Friday evening, a civilian vehicle collided with a patrol vehicle from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, resulting in one person being trapped and four people sustaining injuries. This incident occurred in Santa Ana at 6:52 PM on December 29, 2023.

The collision involving the deputy took place at approximately 6:52 PM near the intersection of East 17th Street and North Linwood Avenue. It occurred when an unmarked sheriff’s patrol vehicle collided with a grey SUV.

A passenger in the grey SUV was trapped as a result of the collision, requiring firefighters to use heavy rescue tools to free them. Both the civilian driver and passenger were taken to UCI Medical Center as “moderate trauma” patients, although their exact prognosis was not immediately known.

Two sheriff’s deputies were in the patrol vehicle and were taken to St. Joseph’s hospital in an unknown condition. It is not clear what caused the collision at this time.
