In August, Shawn Bradley initiated a recall against three Cal City councilmembers due to their involvement in deception, mismanagement, and wasteful spending. According to Bradley, he has reached his limit with Mayor Kelly Kulikoff, Councilman Michael Kulikoff (who also happens to be the Mayor’s brother), and Mayor Pro Tem Ron Smith.
Despite the unfavorable odds, Bradley exudes unwavering confidence in achieving his desired outcome. According to Bradley, there are certain actions being taken by them that are not aligned with what they should be doing. He further added that there are instances where they are not being truthful and honest. All these factors raise concerns for Bradley, especially regarding the abuse of power and other related matters.
In August, Bradley was involved in the recall as a community activist. According to him, he had a plethora of reasons for his involvement in the recall effort. According to Bradley, he currently has a group of supporters and intends to persuade more individuals to join his cause. He has approximately two weeks left to collect over 1,000 signatures, and he is optimistic about his chances of success.
According to Kelly Kulikoff, he is in disagreement with Bradley’s assertions. Kelly Kulikoff believes that the reasons for the recall were not truthful and correct. She disagrees with the issues that were raised and considers them to be skewed. In her opinion, none of the statements made about the recall are accurate.
According to Bradley, the trio’s motive is to remove councilmember Karen Macedonio from her position, as she is currently facing legal action from the city regarding her dual role as a council member and director of the East Kern Health Care District. Despite being a board member of the Kern Economic Development Corporation, Macedonio refused to comment on the matter. Bradley took the initiative to launch a website in support of Macedonio, called StandWithKaren.com.
He asserts that the recall has actually been beneficial in bringing about positive changes, which aligns with his ultimate goal. Bradley stated that even if they are unable to remove the individuals from the council, they are still making progress through the recall efforts.
Kulikoff acknowledged that the concept of the recall served as an eye-opener for her. She realized that despite her belief that she was doing enough, there was still more that she needed to do. In 2026, Bradley plans to run for council again, having already run for it in the past.
