The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office has reported that the body of a Queens man, who went missing in October after taking an Amtrak trip to visit a female friend in Virginia, has been discovered in the woods near the friend’s residence.
According to Swift, the cause of death remains “undetermined.” However, the family shared that investigators have suggested that Smith may have been the victim of a homicide.
The family grew suspicious when Smith failed to return home from his late October trip. They soon discovered that his bank account had been completely emptied just days after his arrival in Fredericksburg, where his female friend resides. Smith and the woman had known each other since their high school days.
“I can’t wrap my head around what’s going on down there,” expressed Michael Perry, Smith’s older brother, when discussing the investigation on Tuesday. “We are well aware of the key individuals involved.”
Shortly after Smith’s disappearance, the sheriff’s office in Virginia interviewed his friend and several acquaintances.
Smith, an employee at a real estate management firm in Manhattan, was last spotted at a Target store near Fredericksburg. He was purchasing groceries and toilet paper for his friend and her children.
According to Smith’s sister-in-law, Diana Perry, the female friend provided three different accounts of Smith’s final actions in the vicinity of her residence on Timber Ridge Townhouse Road.
According to Perry, there were multiple versions of the events. Initially, it was said that he left with a girl. Then, it was claimed that he took an Uber. Later, the mother mentioned to the police that he took Amtrak to return home. Lastly, her son, who was present during the incident, stated that Smith went out the back door and into the woods.
Smith was discovered in the nearby woods, just a short distance from her friend’s house. As a result, she was subsequently evicted from the premises. Smith was thrilled about his recent job promotion and was in excellent physical condition. He had just obtained a certification as a fire safety inspector at his company.
Smith’s brother expressed that the moment Smith received it, the sheer joy on his face was unmistakable. He was genuinely elated and filled with happiness. According to Michael Perry, they were worried about Smith’s friendship with the woman from Virginia, particularly because she had a previous incident where she falsely claimed to be pregnant with his child last year.
The brother remembered saying, “You know what, just leave her alone, man.” Smith resided in Queens with his visually impaired mother.
On Thursday this week, his mother, brother, and sister-in-law from New York will be making the journey to Virginia to attend his funeral on Friday. Smith’s final resting place will be in a family plot located in Virginia.
“Now, justice must be served,” stated Michael Perry.
