Biden accuses Johnson of being ignorant in his criticism of Easter

President Biden responded to Speaker Mike Johnson’s criticism of the White House for scheduling Easter and Transgender Day of Visibility on the same day, stating that Johnson was “uninformed.”

“He is completely ignorant,” Biden stated during Monday’s Easter Egg Roll in response to Johnson’s criticism.

The reporter asked, “How are they uninformed?”

Biden denied the accusation, saying, “I didn’t do that.”

Johnson, like many other conservatives, criticized the White House for its Easter egg art contest rules that prohibit the use of religious symbols. He also expressed concern about the timing of Transgender Day of Visibility.

“The core essence of Easter, the resurrection of Jesus Christ, has been undermined by the Biden White House,” Johnson expressed on X, formerly known as Twitter. “It is both outrageous and abhorrent to banish sacred truth and tradition while simultaneously proclaiming Easter Sunday as ‘Transgender Day.’ The American people are taking notice of this betrayal.”

The White House has strongly refuted both criticisms, asserting that they are misleading.

Biden declared March 31 as Transgender Day of Visibility, which coincided with Easter this year. Transgender Day of Visibility, observed for the past 15 years, aims to celebrate transgender individuals and shed light on the challenges they encounter due to discrimination.

White House officials have emphasized that the rules prohibiting the use of religious symbols in the egg contest have been in place for a long time. These rules have remained consistent across different administrations, including the Trump presidency.

Elizabeth Alexander, the communications director for first lady Jill Biden, clarified the situation regarding the White House and Easter festivities. She emphasized that the American Egg Board flyer’s non-discrimination language, which has been in use for the past 45 years, is standard and has been utilized by both Democratic and Republican administrations. This language is included in the request for artwork for the White House Easter Egg Rolls, including those organized by previous administrations.
