Ben Shapiro, the co-founder of the Daily Wire and a known critic of former President Donald Trump, surprised many when he declared that he would be hosting a fundraiser for him next week.
Ben Shapiro, in a recent podcast, revealed that he will be co-hosting an upcoming fundraiser for Donald Trump. He explained his change of stance by asserting that Joe Biden is the most ineffective president he has witnessed in his lifetime. Shapiro even went as far as to say that he would go to great lengths, like walking over broken glass, to cast his vote for the Republican nominee.
According to Shapiro, the calculation is quite straightforward: America experienced a higher level of security and prosperity under Donald Trump compared to Joe Biden. He firmly believes that during Trump’s presidency, America was in a better state.
“I will always be upfront with you when it comes to Donald Trump. I have to admit, he wasn’t my initial pick during the primaries. He definitely has his flaws as a person. I have never shied away from voicing my concerns about Trump, whether it’s about his character or his policies. However, I firmly believe that Donald Trump is the only thing standing between America and another term with Joe Biden.”
Ben Shapiro has consistently expressed strong disapproval of Trump throughout the years. He held Trump responsible for the violent events that unfolded on January 6 at the U.S. Capitol. During the incident, a mob of Trump supporters, fueled by his false claims regarding the election, stormed the Capitol building, resulting in fatalities and numerous injuries to law enforcement officers.
Ben Shapiro expressed his support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis during the Republican primary for the 2024 election. However, after DeSantis withdrew from the race following his defeat in Iowa in January, Shapiro shifted his endorsement to Trump.
The conservative firebrand not only supported DeSantis but also strongly criticized Trump’s media supporters. He called out former Fox News host Tucker Carlson for conducting a “softball” interview with Trump back in August.
Ben Shapiro couldn’t help but express his disbelief at the softball questions Tucker Carlson was throwing at Donald Trump. Shapiro mocked the question where Carlson asked Trump to criticize Mike Pence by suggesting that Trump had always been kind to him. The whole exchange left Shapiro at a loss for words, finding it difficult to comprehend the peculiarity of the situation.
Shapiro urged Republicans to distance themselves from Trump if they want to stand a chance of winning the general election against Biden. He warned that Republicans are risking defeat by continuing to support the former president.
In November, Shapiro emphasized the significance of keeping Trump at the forefront of the discussion for Democrats. According to him, half of the independents consider Trump to be a major factor in their voting decision, and they are showing a strong preference for Democrats. Shapiro advised Republicans against engaging in this strategy, warning that it could lead to negative consequences for them.
In addition, Shapiro was a member of the self-proclaimed #NeverTrump movement of Republicans back in 2016 who chose not to support Trump for the nomination. In March 2016, he penned a column titled “I Will Never Vote For Donald Trump. Here’s Why.”
