Attempted murder charges filed against Ohio driver in Thruway shooting incident

An Ohio tractor trailer driver is facing attempted murder and other charges following a road rage incident that occurred on Monday morning along the 90 West in Buffalo, NY. The driver is also charged with sideswiping another vehicle.

According to State Police, two tractor trailer drivers engaged in a road rage incident on the 90 west at around 7:45am on Monday morning. The incident initially occurred near the Pembroke exit but escalated as it progressed. Trooper James O’Callaghan stated that the 26-year-old driver fired shots at the other truck, putting everyone in danger. Fortunately, the three occupants in the targeted tractor trailer were unharmed, including a 10-year-old girl who was in a sleeper berth just inches away from one of the bullets.

According to O’Callaghan, Dylan Cottingham, a 26-year-old suspect, continued driving and even hit a passenger car before he was finally stopped on Union, close to Walden in Cheektowaga.

According to O’Callaghan, road rage incidents occur frequently on the Thruway, often due to distractions or drivers using their phones. However, it is uncommon for individuals to take violent actions such as shooting at other vehicles or taking matters into their own hands instead of alerting authorities by calling 911.

Authorities have charged Cottingham with several serious offenses, including attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment, criminal mischief, and menacing. As of now, he is being held without bail.
