According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, there were multiple fights between juveniles at the South Florida Fair on Saturday night. As a result, five individuals were arrested, and two claimed to have been stabbed.
According to Terri Barbera, fights broke out in various areas of the midways at the South Florida Fairgrounds from 9 p.m. until the fair closed for the night.
She stated that in that particular moment, less lethal ammunition was deployed to disperse the large, disorderly crowd of around 200 individuals who were exhibiting hostile and unruly behavior.
Deputies from various parts of the county were called upon to provide assistance to the deputies already present at the scene.
Three minors are being charged with trespassing after warning and resisting without violence. Another minor is facing charges of trespassing and resisting without violence. Additionally, one minor is being charged with resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
Starting this year, individuals under the age of 18 will be required to have a parent or guardian accompanying them after 7 p.m. on both Fridays and Saturdays.
“On opening day, Vicki Chouris, president/CEO of the South Florida Fair, expressed her concern about some attendees not participating in the intended activities. She stated, ‘They’re not riding the rides. They’re not doing the things they’re supposed to be doing, so we want to keep it a family-friendly event.'”
