Arrest Made in Miami Hate Crime Attack on Lesbian and Trans Woman

Mocobizscene- In a shocking incident that has left the city of Miami and the nation outraged, two individuals have been apprehended for their involvement in a brutal assault on a lesbian woman and a transgender woman. The disturbing incident, which took place in November and was caught on camera, is now being investigated as a hate crime.

Jorge Giovani Estevez, 33, and Daiken Fernandez, 25, found themselves in custody on Wednesday, as they were confronted with charges of battery with prejudice. The Miami Police Department’s relentless investigation over the past few weeks led to this significant development.

“I felt like they were specifically targeting us because of our sexual orientation,” one victim shared with NBC South Florida. “It’s still baffling to me why they would do that.”

Miami Police Chief Manuel A. Morales strongly criticized the incident, emphasizing that such occurrences are infrequent and will not be accepted in the city. “It is crucial that we show mutual respect and uphold the rights of our fellow citizens to live in a secure and contented manner,” he stated.

Estevez and Fernandez will have their arraignment on January 26. If they are found guilty, they could potentially be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison for each felony count. This serves as a stark reminder of the serious repercussions that hate crimes can have.
