Arrest made following a shootout amidst a crowded gathering in downtown Augusta

Over the weekend, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation disclosed fresh information about a man who fired shots into a gathering of individuals in downtown Augusta.

The shooter who caused the tragic incident on Monday has been identified by the GBI as 19-year-old Amazing Lee Blessed Brigham from Hephzibah.

The state agency reported that Sole’s restaurant in Augusta’s downtown area was being monitored by three deputies from Richmond County during the early hours of June 8 as part of their off-duty jobs.

According to the GBI, the location experienced a high volume of foot traffic due to the numerous bars and restaurants in the vicinity.

According to the GBI, deputies were alerted to the sound of multiple gunshots around 1:15 a.m. Upon arrival at the scene, they discovered a man holding an assault pistol outside a restaurant.

According to an earlier report from Augusta law enforcement officials and as reported by Channel 2 Action News, the weapon in question was initially identified as an assault rifle.

Brigham was fired upon by two out of three deputies, resulting in at least one hit. Additionally, two innocent bystanders were hit and injured by the gunfire as reported by the GBI.

According to the GBI, the three individuals who sustained gunshot wounds were immediately transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

Upon conducting a more in-depth inquiry, the GBI discovered that Brigham was engaged in a gunfire exchange with several unidentified individuals outside the restaurant. The altercation resulted in a gunfight that spanned over two to three blocks.

According to the GBI, the cause of the gunfight is yet to be determined. The officials stated that multiple weapons were found at the crime scene along with evidence of the crime, including seven vehicles that were hit by gunfire.

According to the GBI, the incident caused damage to several businesses in the vicinity due to the gunfire.

Richmond County deputies took Brigham into custody and charged him with two counts of aggravated assault and possessing a firearm during the commission of the crime after treating his injuries.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing by the GBI.
