The suspect accused of murdering Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus is scheduled to appear in court again on Friday.
An arraignment hearing for Jose Ibarra is set to take place at 11 a.m. in Clarke County Superior Court. During the hearing, Ibarra will be required to enter a plea.
Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student, tragically lost her life while jogging on the University of Georgia campus on Feb. 22. The authorities swiftly apprehended Ibarra, a Venezuelan migrant, and formally charged him with her murder.
According to the indictment, investigators have outlined the events that preceded Riley’s death.
Ibarra is facing charges stated in the court document for allegedly kidnapping Riley, preventing her from making a 911 call, and unlawfully restricting her freedom.
The document accuses him of being a “Peeping Tom” for supposedly trespassing onto the UGA campus and voyeuristically observing a woman in an apartment at the University of Georgia Village Housing complex, which provides housing for families and graduate students.
Just across the street from Oconee Forest Park and a retention pond is Building “S”, the exact location where Riley was running when she tragically lost her life.
