According to reports, a man from Greenwood disrupted a couple’s breakfast by barging into their home uninvited with a baseball bat and instigating a physical altercation.

A Level 5 felony charge of battery with a deadly weapon and Level 6 felony charges of residential entry, intimidation, and battery have been filed against Justin B. Wheat, aged 42.

As per the court records, police received a distress call about an assault at a residence in Greenwood on Sunday. The victims recounted to the authorities that they were having breakfast when Wheat barged into their home with a baseball bat.

According to the Johnson County Prosecutor’s Office, Wheat has a prior relationship with the victims, although the nature of their association was not revealed. Paternity hearings indicate that Wheat and one of the victims share a child together, as per court records.

According to court documents, after the victims managed to subdue Wheat, he proceeded to make threatening statements towards the Greenwood police officers who arrived on the scene, including “I’ll kill you.”

When Wheat was taken into custody, police noticed a strong smell of alcohol emanating from his person.

According to the police report, Wheat was identified as a former baseball player by the victims.

According to court records, Wheat had already been issued a protective order by the female victim and her son. Moreover, a sheriff’s deputy had formally trespassed Wheat from the victim’s home on Saturday, just one day before he reportedly returned to the premises carrying a baseball bat.

Wheat could potentially face a maximum of six years in prison if found guilty of the Level 5 felony charge.
