On Saturday, law enforcement officials arrested a 17-year-old individual who had allegedly stolen a Chevy Tahoe that belonged to the advance team of former President Donald Trump’s campaign. The suspect has been charged with the theft.
Milwaukee is hosting the 2024 Republican National Convention, and Trump is in attendance at the event. His arrival in the city came one day after his vehicle was stolen.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Milwaukee County Criminal Court, the incident started around 4 a.m. in front of the Pfister Hotel. The complaint has charged the teenager with a felony for operating a motor vehicle without consent and a misdemeanor for criminal damage to property.
According to the complaint, the teenager is accused of unlawfully accessing a valet lockbox at the Pfister Hotel located on East Wisconsin Avenue.
According to the complaint, the teen allegedly drove the car through the parking gate at the Mason Street exit. As per the statement of a security guard, he tried to catch the door handle of the vehicle and open it while the teen was driving by, but the door was locked.
The authorities were able to locate the vehicle at Walmart on 6300 Brown Deer Road, thanks to the GPS tracking system. Upon arriving at the store, the teenager was apprehended by the police.
Upon his arrest, multiple keys were discovered in his possession, including the key to the Tahoe vehicle in question, according to police reports.
According to the teen, he stumbled upon a locked cabinet while looking for an outlet to charge his phone inside the Pfister. His curiosity got the best of him, and he ended up breaking into the cabinet.
As of Wednesday afternoon, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s website reported that he was being held at Milwaukee County Jail on a $2,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for July 23rd.
Due to his status as a minor, the 17-year-old individual is not being identified by the Journal Sentinel.
