A safe containing $100,000 discovered by a couple while magnet fishing in Queens

While magnet fishing in Queens, a couple from New York City stumbled upon an unexpected surprise: a safe containing approximately $100,000.

Last Friday, James Kane and Barbi Agostini took a trip to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens where they decided to go magnet fishing in a stream. To their surprise, they pulled out a safe with their rope fishing line that contained clusters of water-damaged $100 bills amounting to roughly $100,000. After opening the safe, the couple was stunned by their incredible discovery.

Although the couple had caught a safe before, this was the first time they discovered treasure inside. To ensure that the findings were not part of any illegal activity, they decided to report it to the New York Police Department.

According to Kane and Agostini, the NYPD informed them that they couldn’t link the safe to a crime due to the fact that the money was in bad shape and there were no indications of its original owner or identification. As per the couple, the police allowed them to keep the money. ABC News reached out to the NYPD for a statement, but received no response.

Kane expressed disbelief as he shared with ABC News about their discovery of a six-figure sum. “It still doesn’t feel real,” he said.

The couple’s magnet and rope successfully yielded a substantial haul, but they still have a lengthy journey ahead of them before reaping any financial benefits.

Agostini explained that the water-logged bills would further deteriorate upon touch.

According to their statement, they plan to take the deteriorating currency to the Treasury Department in Washington, D.C. with the hope of restoring it.

In the past, they have made some interesting discoveries, including firearms, a grenade, a fully operational motorcycle, and even a drone.

“Taking the garbage out of the water is a spectacle that people in the heart of New York City love to watch,” Agostini expressed.
