A man who was fatally shot on a sidewalk in Albany Park

Officials have confirmed that a man who was discovered unresponsive on a sidewalk in Albany Park early Tuesday had been shot to death.

Around 2:37 a.m., the authorities received several calls regarding a person down in the 3300 block of West Lawrence. Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered a 59-year-old man from Evanston lying near a strip mall. The Chicago Fire Department tried to rescue the man, but unfortunately, he passed away at Swedish Hospital shortly after due to his injuries.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has stated that he passed away due to a gunshot wound to his head, with the manner of death being ruled as homicide. This was confirmed on Wednesday.

Last week, a woman was killed in a double shooting about half a mile away from where the shooting took place.
