Two Metro Atlanta families continue to mourn the tragic loss of their loved ones who drowned last year during spring break. On the anniversary of his passing, 16-year-old Bryce Brooks was honored and remembered by his family.
This spring was meant to be a joyful time for Bryce Brooks and his loved ones, as they planned to celebrate his graduation from Maynard Jackson High School. However, instead of the anticipated festivities, they gathered this weekend for a different kind of celebration – a balloon release to remember and honor Bryce’s life, which was tragically cut short.
Bryce’s father, Alfred “Shivy” Brooks, described the phone call as one that no parent ever wants to receive.
In Pensacola, Florida, during Spring Break 2023, Bryce Brooks, a courageous 16-year-old, fearlessly dove into the water to assist fellow struggling children. Charles “Chuck” Johnson, a family friend, bravely followed suit, determined to lend a hand. Tragically, neither Bryce nor Chuck managed to make it out alive from the treacherous waters.
Brooks expressed his deep sorrow as he shared the tragic news of losing their baby to rip tides. These treacherous currents often deceive swimmers, appearing calm on the surface while hiding their true danger below. However, despite the heartbreaking loss, Brooks found solace in knowing that their baby had courageously sacrificed their own life in a valiant attempt to save others. This selfless act meant the world to them, offering some comfort amidst their grief.
Crystal Brooks, Bryce’s mother, expressed that this year has been incredibly challenging and they deeply miss him.
