BALTIMORE, MD- Maryland has resulted in the arrest of 64 fugitives, aiming to enhance public safety across the state.
The U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, in collaboration with the District of Maryland and other task force partners, carried out an extensive, multi-agency law enforcement operation with the primary objective of apprehending violent fugitives and wanted gang members. This operation spanned the first two weeks of December.
During the operation, law enforcement successfully apprehended a total of 58 individuals. Among those arrested were four individuals wanted for homicide, nine individuals wanted for attempted homicide, thirteen individuals wanted for robbery, three individuals wanted for weapon offenses, three individuals wanted for armed carjackings, five individuals wanted for drug offenses, six individuals wanted for sex offenses, and fifteen individuals wanted for assault. The operation proved to be a significant success in apprehending individuals involved in various serious crimes.
“Every time the U.S. Marshals Service conducts one of these washout operations, we take dozens of violent offenders off the streets,” said Mathew Silverman, Acting United States Marshal for the District of Maryland. “Thanks to the amazing work done by the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and our law enforcement partners, local communities throughout the state of Maryland can enjoy a safer holiday season.”
“Through coordination and partnership, more than 60 violent fugitives have been taken off the streets as part of Operation Washout,” said United States Attorney Erek L. Barron. “Reducing violent crime remains a top priority of the U.S. Attorney’s Office and we will continue to work with our partners and use every tool available to hold accountable those who commit violent crime.”
Law enforcement officials confiscated a total of 17 firearms, along with 2,093 kilograms of narcotics and $8,414 in U.S. currency.
