5-Year-Old Hollywood Boy Shot Himself On New Year’s Day. Dad Arrested

Mocobizscene- According to authorities, a 5-year-old in a Hollywood condominium shot himself on New Year’s Day while seated next to his father on the couch. Now, the father of the boy is accused of neglecting his child.

According to authorities, Travoynne Martin, 32, acknowledged taking his Taurus FX 4 handgun out of his waistband after lounging on the couch and watching TV. He claimed that while his son sat next to him, he set the pistol down on the table.

Martin reported to the police hearing two loud booms shortly after. Tearful, his son sprang at him and apologized. He hurried the youngster to a hospital after noticing that blood was dripping from his left arm.

Martin was charged with both culpable carelessness and child neglect, and he made his court appearance on Wednesday. Despite Martin’s mother endorsing him and saying he “really, really loves his child,” he was told not to communicate with his son.

Judge Catalina Avalos of Broward County Court shook her head and offered some observations during Martin’s court appearance.

Avalos added, “Mr. Martin, please don’t answer me, but because he’s a child, I don’t know what you were thinking, sir.” “No matter how many times you warn him not to do something, he still doesn’t know if it’s a toy or not. He is not to blame. You are responsible. You recognize that?

As of Thursday afternoon, Martin is no longer being housed at the Broward jail.

How had the kid obtained the gun?
According to the police, Martin hammered on his door wildly and had blood on his right shoulder when a neighbor called them. In addition, the neighbor claimed to have seen Martin, his girlfriend, and their son get into a car and drive away.

Investigators say that a little child at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital had a gunshot wound, and they subsequently received a call about it. While the five-year-old child was being hurried into surgery, they chatted with Martin and his girlfriend.

The youngster informed authorities that he “touched and squeezed” the gun on the table when he noticed it while he and his father were seated on the couch. He claimed to be aware that handling firearms was forbidden.

Eight firearms that were “easily accessible to anyone” were discovered strewn throughout the residence by police after they obtained a search order. Except for one, they were all loaded.
