15-Year-Old Arrested for Northeast D.C. Rideshare Driver Murder

Washington, DC — The Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department has made a tremendous progress in the investigation into the murder of a rideshare driver in Northeast Washington. Nasrat Ahmad Yar, a 31-year-old Alexandria, Virginia resident, was shot inside a car in July 2023 and was subsequently declared dead in spite of numerous attempts to save his life.

The event, which happened in the wee hours of July 3, 2023, prompted a thorough inquiry. A 15-year-old male from Northeast D.C. was taken into custody by police of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force on March 1st, in accordance with a DC Superior Court custody order.

The minor’s accusation of First Degree Murder while Armed represents a turning point in the case and offers the victim’s family and community some measure of justice.
