Statewide Honors for Local Deputy Chief Probation Officer Marguerite Harris

During the 2023 Annual Chief Probation Officers of California Awards Ceremony, Marguerite Harris, Deputy Chief Probation Officer for San Luis Obispo County and member of the California Association of Probation Institution Administrators (CAPIA), received recognition. Because of her outstanding work ethic and accomplishments to her industry, she was awarded the Affiliate Employee of the Year Award.

Harris plays a key role in both leading executive board meetings and planning CAPIA regional gatherings. Her work has a major positive impact on how well California’s juvenile facilities are able to rehabilitate children and young adults.

In addition, Harris chairs the Central Region, and in 2024, he will assume the role of Legislation. She is a member of the Board of State and Community Corrections Juvenile Titles 15 and 24 Regulation Revisions Executive Steering Committee. She offers insightful information about probation facilities and their operations in various capacities.

The CPOC’s executive director, Karen Pank, praised Harris for his commitment to helping young people involved in the juvenile justice system. Pank acknowledged Harris’s contribution to making sure juvenile facilities in California represent the restorative efforts of probation officers.

A group of top law enforcement officials from all 58 counties in California is called the Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC). CPOC advocates for a science-based strategy for public safety that emphasizes behavior modification. Their work informs policy and practice in the areas of direct human services, community-based incarceration, secure juvenile confinement, and prevention. Preventing crime and delinquency, lowering recidivism, healing victims, and fostering wholesome families and communities are the objectives of the CPOC.
