Three People, Including A Suspect And An Officer, Shot During Standoff In Montgomery

According to the Montgomery Police Department, a suspect in an overnight standoff has been apprehended. However, during the incident, the suspect, along with two others, including a police officer, sustained gunshot wounds.

According to Major Saba Coleman, the suspect, as well as two victims, sustained injuries that are not life-threatening. They have been transported to nearby hospitals for necessary medical care.

Around 12:20 a.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the vicinity of South Panama Street near Poplar Street following reports of a person armed with a gun and shots being fired.

According to Coleman, the responding officers confronted the suspect near Poplar Street and Ann Street. During the encounter, the suspect opened fire on one of the officers, who retaliated by returning fire. Coleman also stated that the suspect attempted a robbery and shot a man during the incident. As additional units arrived at the scene, the suspect continued to shoot at the officers, ultimately striking one of them.

The suspect was pursued by MPD units on foot until he reached a local business located in the 1100 block of Ann Street, according to Coleman. Once there, he barricaded himself inside the building.

According to Coleman, the MPD swiftly deployed additional resources to the area and took control of the scene. He also mentioned that there was no immediate danger to the surrounding businesses.

The police successfully apprehended the barricaded suspect and immediately transferred him to a hospital for medical attention to address his injury. Legal charges against him are currently being considered.

According to Coleman, the MPD has handed over the case to the State Bureau of Investigation, which is part of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
