In Troy, a Texas man was convicted for bank fraud and identity theft

TROY, Ala – A man from Pasadena, Texas has been sentenced to 43 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to stealing mail and cashing illegal checks in Troy.

John Eugene Dibello, aged 41, was found guilty of conspiracy to commit mail and bank fraud, as well as aggravated identity theft. Along with 30-year-old Taelor Amie Owens, Dibello broke into several mailboxes, stealing checks and identity information while visiting Alabama.

Owens, who pleaded guilty to the same offenses, is awaiting sentencing and could face up to thirty years in federal prison.

The United States Postal Inspection Service and the Troy Police Department investigated the case, discovering stolen mail from Texas, a post office arrow key, and at least two fake identities in the suspects’ hotel room.

In addition to his prison term, Dibello has been ordered to serve three years of supervised release.
