BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Over the weekend, Detroit-based rapper Gmac Cash, whose real name is Gerald Allen, stumbled upon a video on his phone showing a fight that broke out among several people at Montgomery’s Riverfront Park.
Allen knew he had a song on his hands after watching the video, and his fans agreed, flooding his DMs with requests to make a song about it.
By Monday, Allen had released “Montgomery Brawl,” a song that lasts over a minute and a half, with the refrain “Montgomery Brawl” repeated throughout. The song includes lyrics about a person swimming towards the fight and a man using a folding chair as a weapon.
Allen has gained viral success in recent years for his comedic songs about current events.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he released “Coronavirus,” which has over 4 million views on YouTube. His song “Giant Slide” about mishaps on the Belle Island slide in Detroit got even more attention when late-night TV host Jimmy Kimmel invited Allen to perform it on his show.
Allen said he was amazed by how much was going on in the video and that the best part was seeing people come together to help the security guard being hit in the video.
The Montgomery Police Department has issued arrest warrants for three people charged with third-degree assault in connection with the fight.
“Montgomery Brawl” is now available on Spotify and has already received thousands of plays online. Allen plans to make a music video for the song and hopes to perform it in Montgomery.
