Montgomery, Alabama – One of Montgomery’s private, expensive restaurants and professional social groups is slated to shut its doors permanently. According to Club Manager Daniel Clark, the Capital City Club, which is housed on the top floors of the RSA Tower in downtown Montgomery, will close its doors soon.
“After considering numerous options, the Capital City Club will close on July 15, 2023,” Clark stated. “The members and employees of this wonderful club created many special memories, and we will miss the daily routines, fun events, friendships, and relationships built at the Capital City Club.”
The cause for the shutdown was not specified.
WSFA 12 News got a letter that was sent to the club’s members. It said that the club’s management would work with the club’s board of governors, members, and employees over the next few weeks to offer opportunities to move memberships or transfer jobs to other Invited Clubs, the company that owns the Capital City Club.
The company also owns the City Club in Birmingham, the University Club in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and the Commerce Club or Buckhead Club in Atlanta.
“We thank the Capital City Club Members for their support through the years. It has been a privilege and pleasure to serve the Montgomery community for the past 46 years,” Clark said.
While the club has been in Montgomery for nearly a half-century, its address has been the coveted top of the RSA Tower since 1997, affording visitors to the 21st and 22nd floors spectacular views of the city’s cityscape and beyond.
In 2014, the space was renovated for a year and a million dollars, and then a grand reopening was held.
It’s not clear what business or companies will move into the prime real estate when Capital City Club closes.
