On Monday morning, Pike Road High School was put on lockdown due to concerns regarding a possible threat at the Georgia Washington campus.
School administrators were immediately notified and took action to ensure the safety of all students and staff on the premises. The situation is currently being investigated, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
At 3:30 p.m., the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming that a suspect had been identified and apprehended. However, due to the individual being a minor, the authorities have opted not to disclose any further information about their identity or the circumstances surrounding the arrest. Rest assured, the law enforcement officials are doing their utmost to ensure the safety and security of the community.
In a statement, Assistant Chief Deputy Wesley Richerson emphasized the importance of school safety to the Sheriff’s Office. He made it clear that any individuals who posed a threat to the well-being of students would be pursued with unwavering determination.
Around 7:40 a.m., a teacher reported that a student had received a text message threatening harm to students on campus. This prompted the school administrators to implement a lockdown. Students were already entering the building, and the school instructed them to proceed to their first period classes. Superintendent Keith Lankford shared this information, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing students’ safety.
In a recent statement, Lankford expressed gratitude towards all those who played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of students during uncertain times. The bus drivers, CNP, staff, teachers, students, parents, and administrators have all been appreciated for their flexibility and willingness to prioritize the safety of students. With an unwavering commitment towards the well-being of the students, the staff was well-prepared to tackle any situation that arose and executed the safety plan confidently and efficiently. The safety and security of the students will always remain the topmost priority for the school.
Following the start of the lockdown, it took two hours for the school district and local law enforcement to confirm that the threat was not immediate. However, investigators continued to assess the situation and determine its credibility. Meanwhile, school officials announced an early dismissal plan for students, which was scheduled to begin at 10:20 a.m. In response, Pike Road Schools issued a statement on social media to keep everyone informed.
According to the statement released, the collaboration with law enforcement partners is ongoing. The safety of all students is ensured, and no one is currently in a dangerous situation. Rest assured, we will provide further updates as the situation unfolds.
At 11:45 a.m., the scenario was still unfolding as the authorities collaborated with Pike Road educators and administrators to ensure the safe and organized evacuation of students.
In an effort to ensure the safety and security of all students, parents and guardians of PRHS students were directed to pick up their children at the front of the school building. The school administration has implemented a system where students are released one at a time to their respective vehicles as they arrive. This procedure aims to streamline the pick-up process and prevent congestion around the school premises.
According to an email from district spokesperson Ryan Kendall, all bus riders and other students on campus will be kept in a secure location until they are picked up. The early dismissal may cause some inconvenience, but the district is grateful for the support.
