According to recent reports, the number of COVID-19 cases is increasing again, causing growing concern among health officials. In fact, just this week, even First Lady Jill Biden tested positive for the virus. Moreover, doctors are now wary of a new variant that could further complicate the situation.
According to Dr. Wes Stubblefield from the Alabama Department of Public Health, there is a growing concern regarding the mutations in the spike protein. This is because it may affect the immunity that has already been established through vaccination or previous infection.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported that there have been more than 15,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations in the United States between August 13 and 19. This marks an 18% increase in recent weeks, highlighting the ongoing severity of the pandemic.
According to the CDC, the number of deaths caused by COVID has increased by approximately 18%, indicating a concerning trend.
This month, a fresh vaccine is being introduced, and Stubblefield is advocating for Alabamians to consider receiving it.
According to him, getting vaccinated is particularly crucial for individuals who fall under the high-risk category, are older, or have existing chronic health conditions or weakened immune systems. He emphasized that this measure can significantly reduce the chances of hospitalization and even death.
The CDC has distributed more than 152 million bivalent vaccines at present, as per their latest report.
