Cullman police say charges in the Rock the South beating are expected soon

Police in Cullman said that charges will be filed soon in the attack at Rock the South that sent a young man to the hospital over the weekend.

“Thank you to all who have sent in pictures, videos and comments identifying those who are involved in the assault this weekend at Rock the South,’’ police posted on Facebook Monday morning.

“At this time, unless you are an eyewitness to the assault, we don’t need any more information to move forward.”

“Investigators are working on the case, and charges will be filed soon,’’ police said.

Reid Watts, 18, was admitted to the hospital with a concussion, a broken nose, and other injuries.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, Kaci Howard said that the victim was her son and showed a video of the attack.

“PLEASE help me find the cowards who did this to my son tonight at Rock the South. There were several grown men (30s-40s) who jumped on him and beat him unconscious while his girlfriend stood there screaming and crying for help,” Howard stated.

They kept beating him while he was on the ground until security came and got Reid and Katie out of there and into an ambulance. He broke his nose, hit his head, got stitches, and has knots on the back of his head the size of softballs. He had no idea it was coming. One of them said he spilt a drink on him, and they all attacked him at once. Reid didn’t even have a drink in his hand. Anyone who has met Reid before knows what kind of guy he is. He has never met a person he didn’t like, and he can get along with anyone. He is a good kid who doesn’t deserve what happened to him. PLEASE talk about it and help me find out who did it.

Event organizers gave a reward of $10,000 and free tickets to the event for life to the person who solved the case.

Call the Cullman Police Department at 256-734-1434 if you see something.
