‘WE NEED HELP’: 71-year-old woman shot in gang brawl is one of 6 Bronx bystanders killed in 3 days

In the Bronx this week, six innocent bystanders fell victim to gun violence within a span of three days. Among them was a 71-year-old woman who lost her life after being shot in the back during a gang fight in Mott Haven on Thursday afternoon. In another tragic incident, an 8-year-old boy was shot and wounded as he was getting off a school bus. These senseless acts of brutality have shaken the community and left many questioning how such violence could continue to occur.

While strolling with a friend aged 34, Enriqueta Rivera found herself in the crossfire of two men exchanging rapid gunfire just a few blocks away from her residence at 12:30 p.m.

According to reports, Rivera was shot in the back and sadly passed away at NYC Health + Hospital/Lincoln.

At the hospital, it was reported that a 34-year-old woman had sustained a gunshot wound to her arm. Thankfully, she was in stable condition and receiving medical attention.

During a recent press conference, NYPD Assistant Chief Benjamin Gurley expressed his dismay over the unfortunate incident that saw two innocent people being shot while standing on the street. The victims included a 34-year-old woman and a 71-year-old woman who was walking with her back turned to the incident. The older victim fell on 138th Street and Brook Avenue after being hit by a bullet in her back. The incident is a reminder of the need for increased safety measures in our communities.

According to the police, the shooting is suspected to have been carried out by gang members. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

Bronx District Attorney, Darcel Clark, voiced her frustration alongside the police department regarding the recent spike in gun violence. In the past three days alone, there have been four victims of shootings, which Clark describes as “bullets to skin.” The violence is occurring during daylight hours, which is alarming to both the police and the community. Clark made a plea for assistance, stating that enough is enough and action is needed to put an end to this senseless violence.

Just when we thought the situation couldn’t get any worse, two more innocent people became victims of gun violence. Three men, including two bystanders, were shot at East 174th Street and Jerome Avenue in Morris Heights around 7:45 p.m, bringing the total number of bystanders shot in the borough this week to six. This disturbing trend is a grim reminder of the urgent need for stronger gun control measures to protect our communities.

At St. Barnabas Hospital, two bystanders were admitted for treatment and are on the road to recovery. One of them, a 67-year-old man, was shot in the arm, while the other, a 29-year-old man, was shot in the ankle. Despite the traumatic incident, both men are receiving the care they need and are expected to make a full recovery.

According to officials, a young man of 24 years old was admitted to St. Barnabas Hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, leading them to believe that he was the intended victim. The police have reported that the man is not cooperating with their investigation. Fortunately, he is expected to pull through.

A woman aged 38 was also among this week’s victims. She was grazed by a bullet on her arm outside 383 East 143rd St. in Mott Haven at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

As the day approached 5 p.m. on Tuesday, an unfortunate incident occurred where an innocent 8-year-old boy became caught in the middle of a robbery crossfire. The incident took place when he was getting off the school bus on 328 Beekman Ave. in Mott Haven.

Following the incident, the young boy was hospitalized with a thigh injury, but fortunately, his condition was stable. The authorities were quick to take action and arrested a 27-year-old man named Joshua Brooks. He was charged with attempted murder and other counts related to the case.

Clark shared a heart-wrenching incident of an 8-year-old boy he visited in the hospital who miraculously survived a shooting incident. He described the young boy as brave and courageous, but questioned why innocent children are not safe even when traveling on a school bus. Clark expressed that such incidents are unacceptable and we need to take action to protect our children.

Residents are feeling fearful and uncertain as the weekend approaches, with rival gang members engaging in dangerous and alarming displays of gun violence. It is unclear what the future holds, and people are left wondering what could happen next.

According to Gurley, the NYPD is taking steps to address the violence by increasing its presence in the affected areas.
